*** Friday 7:00pm-12:00am Party at Wendi's House. Directions will be given at the conference. Everyone is welcome!


A main goal of this conference is to raise money for AAM's legal/political fund to assist in the coming year. There will be many fund raising opportunities during the conference. You can buy tickets for our 50/50 raffle as well as our raffle for goods and services. Everyone can participate in these opportunities, including those not attending the conference.  


Each day we will have 1 hour for lunch. There are many restraunts surrounding SW Herbs. AAM is offering lunch onsite for an additional $15 a day. Buca di Beppo will be catering. There will be Gluten Free and Vegitarian options. If you have specific dietary needs please contact Wendi Cleckner.


Friday's Conference will have 6 breakout sessions. There will be a CEU track and a non-CEU track. Please look cafeully at which classes offer CEU and which do not:

  • Holistic Self-Care for Healers
    Feb 7, 2014 8:30-10am
    This is a fun and interactive session exploring the many ways in which we midwives and birth workers can care for ourselves, to ensure that we show up with a full (or at least a half-full) cup! Get ready to move and connect with your sisters!

  • Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)
    Feb 7, 2014 10:15-11:30AM
    This workshop will focus on factors that increase likelihood of VBAC success and factors that decrease likelihood of VBAC success, how prenatal and intrapartum care for women desiring VBAC should differ from standard care, and risks and benefits of both elective repeat Cesarean delivery and trial of labor after Cesarean.

  • Transgender Healthcare
    Feb 7, 2014 1:15-2:30PM

    In this workshop participants will gain a basic understanding of health disparities for transgender folks. We will strategize about how we can provide more inclusive care and grow our ability to respect everyone’s experience of gender. We will engage in the ongoing conversation about how midwives can make our practices more accessible to transgender individuals during pregnancy, postpartum, birth and wellness care.

  • CPM Chart Review
    Feb 7, 2014 1:15-2:30PM
    CPM's need CPM Chart Review hours to renew certification. Please bring any difficult or interesting cases to present for review.
    No CEU's for this workshop, however, there are chart review hours.

  • Sex, Blood and Harm Reduction
    Feb 7, 2014 2:45-4PM
    A solution based workshop illustrating how the principles of harm reduction can be applied to midwifery practice. Learn about what the harm reduction model is, current statistics about HIV in the US, how partner violence and stigma relates to women and babies with HIV, appropriate HIV testing in pregnancy, as well as general information on blood born disease transmission.

  • Spanish for Birth Workers

    Ah, el español! Some say it’s el idioma del cielo, the language of heaven.  No promises to master this beautiful language in a little over an hour, but let’s learn together some of the words and phrases relevant to birth, and some accompanying cultural tendencies, with some ideas about how to keep the learning happening long after the conference is over.

    Time to let loose and party with your sisters. Pam Qualls stocked the bar. There will be music and dancing. Bring your dollar bills to play Left Right Center. Everyone is invited, even if they are not attending the conference!

  • Spinning Babies Workshop
    Feb 8, 2014 8:30-4:30
    *Explore the effects  of occiput posterior on the length of pregnancy and labor.
    *Reduce or prevent long, posterior labors during pregnancy.
    *Comfort measures/rotation techniques.
    *How to use the Mexican Rebozo.
    *Belly Mapping
    This workshop is for midwives, CNM's, doulas, nurses, and childbirth educators. Content is not highly technical, but does require the basic knowledge of stages of labor, fetal positions and having attended a few births.

  • Resolving Shoulder Dystocia
    Feb 9, 2014 8:30-6
    Lecture, video clips, and practice with a doll and model. From Gaskin to FlipFLOP, McRoberts and PAC Pull, find how to pick the right technique for each type of shoulder dystocia. Dress comfortably because we practice on the floor. Sorry, no doulas or parents. This workshop is for Midwives,  CNM,  nurses or advanced student midwives.

  • Breech Update
    Feb 9, 2014 8:30-6
    Signs of a safe breech vs. signs of dystocia, when is it too late for transport, upright breech benifits, resolving breech shoulder dystocia and head entrapment. Does hands-off-breech really mean us? Includes practice (low tech) and an in depth discussion of complications.
